That was close.
I think Stroud was Labour's 324th seat, the one that ensured their overall majority. Great to see over 5% of the vote for Martin Whiteside.
George Galloway has just made a mad speech after winning Bethnal Green and Bow.
Radio 5 haven't mentioned Stroud or even Bristol West which was a massive win for the LDs. Huge swing to Lib Dems in Brent East too. Shame for them that they didn't dislodge Oliver Letwin or David Davis etc.
Those who switched away from Labour as a protest, but still sort of hoped David Drew would stay on as MP must be really relieved. If another 351 people had done then Neil Carmichael would have won.
Now off to find out what happened in the county council elections...
Sorry, I just _had_ to blog this (slightly rude, but hilarious)
The bash.org Quote Database has this gem.

Profiles in Mozilla Firefox are really cool. I never used to see the point of them, but now I have loads and they help me to keep focused on a certain type of work or project e.g. dev work. I have one profile which simply loads webmin for my server. And my main one for just browsing, which has the most extensions installed.
Other software I'm loving recently includes liferea (rock steady), rhythmbox (now that gstreamer is maturing, it just plays everything and does shuffle etc etc) and gaim (of course! It's always been a favourite.)

We may never see its like again.
Exhaustion. 25 days of stomach-wrenching nerves, unbearable excitement, and some of the greatest sport you will ever see. When Steve Harmison (this seems like years ago) unleashed the first over of the series at Justin Langer, this was everything we hoped for, and some.
Thank you Vaughny.
Thank you Freddie.
Thank you KP.
Thank you Straussy for your 2 hundreds and *that* catch.
Thank you Geraint, for your performances, especially that 85 at Nottingham.
Thank you Harmy, Hoggy and Gilo for your sheer English persistence and for being so much better than everyone thought you would be.
Thank you Jonesy for taking 18 at 21 and for bowling your heart out.
Thank you Shane and Glenn for being the greatest of your time.
Thank you Ricky and Adam for the quality of your team, your performances, your guts and your sportsmanship.
Just, thank you.
The RetroScope is such a cool idea, I wish I had thought of it! Nat has just got one of those minds...
Also I think he spends time with creative and imaginative friends (or creative and imaginative people want to be friends with him), which helps. He does seem to live in an area where lots of people with the hacker nature hang out. Good for him. I should hang out with my creative friends more often.
I loved George Monbiot's piece on conquering his allotment. Very impressive. Reading it has made me really want to get ourselves an allotment again and really crack it. Last time, we did one good summer, but then the weeds took over and we gave up. Gotta get up there every day really - unless you get it sorted out like George has done with the ditch and the planks. That might be the solution for really busy people.
I know it's a little bit crap to link to the Onion, but I just thought this was /sweet/.
Edd has written a cool list of things that would be true in his alternate reality. I particularly liked the ones about the built-in RSS reader and the downloaded music.
Was talking on the phone to my one brother C about our baby brother L (aged 23). I asked C if he had heard that baby bro had got a new girlfriend. "Yeah," replied C, "but they're not going out properly, they're texting each other."
I just thought that was _/so/_ 2005.
"Holder of longest consecutive sequence of correct solutions (250 approx) for the Listener crossword"
This guy David McNeill is amazing.
I've started doing the Listener crossword each week (published in the Saturday Times), but I'm yet to complete even one (although I'm getting closer each time).

Simon Cozens doesn't trust the Bible anymore.
Well, you have to read his piece.
Very interesting, and it's great that Simon has been so honest in his recent posts on his studies, and frustrations with church life etc.
Classic quotes on web accessibility from someone high up in our organisation yesterday:
"The reason our website doesn't work for a lot of people is because they haven't updated their Microsoft."
"If you have something really old like a Pentium 1 or Pentium 2, then it won't manage it [to display our website], but most people nowadays have a Pentium 4... or higher."
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well that's all right then.
